This is where we started first. This used to be my craft/school room;
after we're done it will be our livingroom.
After taking off the old sheetrock, and the wood slat siding off the interior wall,
this is what we had to work with.
It turns out that the old 1920's siding had slid down,
made a crack where the shorter roof reached the upper wall.
When pulling out all the gross insulation, we found pieces of old newspaper from 1937.
It was pretty cool to see what kinds of things were going on back then and to see adds for SAFEWAY, KOTEX, DR. SCHOLL'S and KLEENEX.
added a bit of good insulation.
And on to the sheetrock. It actually went up really fast. It took us about 3 half days to get it all done.
It looks so different inside; and we've alot more to do. We just got started on the mud and taping, then after that process we get to texture and paint. I picked my colors, a med. green for the focal wall, and a med./light beige for the others; with white ceilings and trim. Then we get to add laminate wood flooring on the to-do list. I can't wait for that one. : )
We replaced the old-wood patchwork they used to consider structurally sound with an actually structurally sound beam.
Replacing the old, not-so-supports made it possible to really open up the space.
After we pulled everything out of that part of the room, we had three layers of flooring to pull up. Carpet and two layers of wood under-flooring had to come up just so we could level the floors. lol that took alot of work, including digging a ditch in our house. There were very few actual supports under the floor and not enough to span the 21ft. distance. sooooo we added all of the supports needed, made sure the floor was level and insulated, and were finally able to put our new under-flooring in.
This is after we gutted the place we took out all the various forms of low R-valued insulation and replaced the old non-grounded wiring with new up-to-code wiring. We actually closed up the window on the back and there was a door back there too that we closed up.
We expanded the window on the right and actually replaced it with a new gridded slider window. In the winter when there aren't any leaves you can see Mt. Hood from this window: )

While we did the inside of the house on this end, we decided to replace the siding as well. Eventually we want to have the various small rectangle rocks along the bottom of the house, but we've got alot of work to do before that happens.lol Especially on a tight budget. And it'll be painted a med./dark brown color and it'll have trim too : ) I guess in this pic we hadn't put up our porch light yet, but we got one and installed it, too : )
I hope to keep yall more updated on my going-ons. Might have another post in tomorrow, hopefully. A couple other misc. things that happened recently.
Thanks for stoppin' by,
Tarina
